Brittany M. Gouse, MD, MPH

Brittany M. Gouse, MD, MPH, is a board-certified psychiatrist at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where she serves as Assistant Director of the Wellness and Recovery after Psychosis (WRAP) Program. She is also an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Gouse received her medical and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees through the SUNY Upstate Medical University and Syracuse University dual-degree program. She completed her psychiatry residency training, followed by a fellowship in community and public psychiatry, at BU/Boston Medical Center.

Throughout her fellowship, Dr. Gouse specialized in the care of individuals living with schizophrenia and other forms of serious mental illness. In her clinical work, she sees patients in the WRAP Program and specializes in treatments involving clozapine and long-acting injectable antipsychotic medications.

Dr. Gouse is a psychiatric epidemiologist whose research broadly focuses on modifiable factors that drive the 15-20 year mortality gap in schizophrenia. She was selected for the BU Clinical and Translational Science Institute KL2 Career Development Award (2023-2025) and the American Psychiatric Association Research Fellowship (2023-2025). She founded the Advancing Coordinated Care through Epidemiologic Studies (ACCESS) Initiative, which aims to improve outcomes in early psychosis through electronic health record and geocoding data.

Her advocacy efforts are focused on increasing access to evidence-based treatment in the early psychosis period, particularly the early use of long-acting injectable antipsychotics and clozapine to reduce the risk of premature mortality following the onset of psychosis. She served on the APA Council on Research (2023-2025) as a fellow member and as a Chair of the Public Sector Commitee of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society (2021-2023).

In her free time, Dr. Gouse enjoys running, spending time with family, going to the beach, and trying to train her dog.
