BOSTON – July 15, 2026 | Boston Medical Center (BMC) has earned redesignation as a Magnet® organization by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the highest credential a healthcare organization can achieve for nursing excellence, quality patient care, and innovation in professional nursing practice.

BMC was first designated as a Magnet® organization in 2021. The redesignation recognizes the continued strength of BMC's nursing practice, the contributions of nurses across the organization, and BMC's commitment to high-quality, equitable care.

Magnet® Redesignation Event

"Magnet® redesignation reflects the strength of our nursing teams and their commitment to our patients and community," said Nancy Gaden, DNP, RN, FAAN, Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Officer at Boston Medical Center. "I am deeply proud of our nurses for sustaining an exceptional standard of care and of every colleague who helped make this achievement possible."

Fewer than 10 percent of hospitals nationwide have achieved Magnet® status, which recognizes organizations that meet stringent, evidence-based standards for nursing excellence and patient care. As part of BMC's redesignation process, ANCC appraisers conducted a three-day site visit in May, meeting with nurses, clinical and organizational leaders, physicians, educators, community partners and staff across the hospital. Magnet® recognition is awarded for four years, and organizations seeking redesignation must demonstrate sustained excellence and measurable results.

"This Magnet® redesignation recognizes the excellence, leadership, and expertise our nurses bring to Boston Medical Center every day," said Anthony Hollenberg, MD, President of Boston Medical Center. "It reflects the strength of our nursing teams and the contributions of colleagues across the organization who support the delivery of outstanding patient care."
