Marie S. Kourtelidis, MSN, CNM

Marie S. Kourtelidis, MSN, CNM, is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Marie was born and raised San Juan, Puerto Rico, and at the age of 17 came to the United States to go to college. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing, a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition, and a master’s degree in nursing with midwifery certification (MSN/CNM).

Marie joined BMC's OB/GYN Midwifery Service in 1999, practicing full-scope midwifery. Her contributions to the department include implementing rapid HIV testing in the Labor & Delivery Unit (Labor, Delivery, and Postpartum Care); quality improvement initiatives such as OBVTE anticoagulation therapy for high-risk patients; and standardization of documentation and smart phrases. She also enjoys teaching and working one-on-one with OB interns, residents, and medical students.

Marie’s areas of clinical interest are hypertensive disorders; breastfeeding; postpartum depression; and nutrition during pregnancy, postpartum, and for patients with diabetes.

Currently, Marie is Primary Postpartum Rounder for the midwifery and low-risk obstetrics (OB) services, where she ensures that patients transition safely from pregnancy and delivery to postpartum care, and that all of their obstetric and primary care (including mental health, immunizations, contraception, and primary care physician (PCP) follow-up) and public health (safety, housing, and resources) needs are met. In addition to English, she is fluent in Spanish.

In her time away from work, Marie enjoys cooking, dancing, attending her kids’ sports events, and cuddling with her dog.
