Karen D. Cullen, MSN, WHNP-BC, CNM

Karen D. Cullen, MSN, WHNP-BC, CNM, is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) and women's and gender-related health care nurse practitioner (WHNP-BC) at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where she serves as Director of Education for Midwifery. She is also an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Karen earned her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She has over twenty years of experience in perinatal nursing.

Since joining the BMC midwifery team in 2021, Karen has worked to increase interprofessional education and collaboration and support patient autonomy and the physiology of birth. She strives to provide trauma-informed, evidence-based clinical care delivered through a reproductive justice framework, and has an ongoing interest in working collaboratively across disciplines to ensure BMC's clinical policies reflect its stated mission. Additional areas of interest for Karen include decreasing systemic barriers to prenatal care, clinical simulation, and culturally humble care.
