Eagen Gene Deune, MD, MBA, is a board-certified orthopedic hand surgeon at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and Boston Medical Center – Brighton (BMC Brighton) and a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Deune is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed residency training in general and plastic surgery as well as two fellowships, in plastic surgery research and in hand surgery/microsurgery, in St. Louis, Missouri, through the Washington University School of Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital/St. Louis Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education Consortium. Additionally, Dr. Deune holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Healthcare Management from the Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business.

Prior to joining BMC, Dr. Deune was Clinical Professor of Surgery and Director of Hand Surgery (Plastic Surgery) at the University of North Carolina. Before that, he was the Chief of Hand Surgery in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Deune’s clinical and research interests focus on hand conditions (arthritis, tendinitis, nerve compression, tumors), hand injuries, congenital hand anomalies, and complex hand and extremity reconstruction. He serves on the Editorial Board for the journals Annals of Plastic Surgery and Orthoplastic Surgery.
