Welcome to BMC's Graduate Medical Education Department

BMC's Graduate Medical Education Department (GME) educates and prepares physicians for board eligibility in a variety of medical disciplines through curricula which reflect an appropriate balance of patient care, education and research.

Boston Medical Center is the sponsoring institution for forty-five (45) ACGME-accredited specialty and sub-specialty programs, participates in four (4) pediatric programs sponsored by Boston Children's Hospital and two (2) ADA accredited program. BMC also received approval for a podiatry program accredited by the Council for Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) starting July 1, 2009. BMC is currently affiliated with thirty-eight (38) participating institutions.  In addition, BMC supports thirty six (36) active nonstandard programs, programs for which there is no accreditation available.

The Minority Recruitment Program has been at Boston City Hospital/Boston Medical Center for over twenty (20) years. Annually about 2,200 minorities graduate from medical schools. Recruitment of these graduates is difficult, especially in the Boston area. To attract minorities, BMC offers subsidized electives to fourth year medical students. The current total number of minority residents at BMC is 103 (16.3%).
