Section Of Gastroenterology

Welcome!
Welcome to the Section of Gastroenterology at Boston Medical Center and Boston University School of Medicine! We have experienced numerous changes over the past few years with the addition of eight new clinicians and the inauguration of the new Center for Digestive Disorders. This new Center combines the expertise of physicians, surgeons, oncologists, and other clinical experts to provide a mutlidisciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment for a wide range of digestive disorders.

Construction of a new Endoscopy Center at the Center for Digestive Disorders at the Menino Pavilion was completed last year, and we are delighted to be able to accommodate patients in a more efficient and thorough manner. In addition to upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, biliary procedures, and endoscopic ultrasonography, we are the only institution in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to offer radiofrequency energy (STRETTA) therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease. The Section of Gastroenterology also provides services in the area of esophageal and anorectal manometry, esophageal pH testing, various breath tests, and acid secretory studies.
Our world-renowned faculty remains at the forefront of emerging new technologies and pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of digestive disorders. Members of our faculty play essential roles in dictating the various activities of governmental organizations such as the National Institutes of Health and the United States Food and Drug Administration. Our exceptional clinical and research faculty frequently publishes original manuscripts and reviews articles in many prestigious scientific journals. In addition, the Section continues to play a leading role in several national organizations, such as the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
The Section of Gastroenterology maintains a high level of excellence in the areas of clinical care, biomedical research, clinical research, and education. By combining outstanding research, education, and clinical service, the Section has continued to achieve national prominence, and members of the Section of Gastroenterology have continued to establish themselves as leaders in many areas within the gastroenterology community.
