Center of Excellence

In 1997, the US Department of Health and Human Services recognized Boston Medical Center’s Women’s Health Program as a National Center of Excellence in Women's Health, a model for best practices in caring for women. We are one of only 21 such centers in the nation, and among the first to be so recognized.

Our Center of Excellence comprises the women’s health care practices at Boston Medical Center and our affiliates: the Boston Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Quincy Medical Center and the Boston HealthNet Community Health Centers. The Center not only delivers the best in clinical care, but we are actively engaged in women's health research and education, and the professional development of women in academic medicine.

Dr. Karen Freund, chief of the Women's Health Group at Boston Medical Center, is the director of the Center of Excellence. She works closely with eight other co-directors whose specialties cover a broad range of interests.
