The Child Protection Team (CPT), part of the Department of Pediatrics, works with patients, families and staff to protect children from abuse and neglect. 

BMC's Child Protection Team works collaboratively to ensure the best outcome for children and families

The CPT:

• Ensures that children and families have access to medical care, psychosocial support and advocacy.
  
  
• Trains BMC doctors, nurses and other professionals how to protect, recognize and manage child maltreatment.
  
  
• Advances the understanding of child maltreatment through research.

Comprised of pediatricians, social workers, a nurse practitioner and an attorney, we are committed to meeting the needs of vulnerable children and families in a sensitive manner.

We work collaboratively with many departments within BMC to ensure that comprehensive care is provided and that all BMC staff have support and training in child maltreatment.

We also work with community health centers, community agencies, the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), law enforcement personnel and the judiciary system to ensure the best possible outcome for children and families.

We review all cases of suspected child maltreatment reported by hospital staff by providing 24/7 consultation to ensure the child's protection.
