Pediatrics – Adolescent Center
Primary Care Services for Youth Ages 13 - 21 Years
If you don't already know us (or even if you do) please take a moment to read and find out why it is so important for you to have a "medical home." Just as it is critical for adults to have a doctor who knows them well and who oversees all of their medical care, it is also essential for young people. Teenagers and young adults often take good health for granted, but there are many health challenges during these years and you need a doctor who understands your unique needs.
The Adolescent Center is part of the Department of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center, where we provide exceptional care to every patient, without exception. Here, you can choose your own doctor or nurse practitioner, an experienced male or female health care provider who will get to know you throughout your adolescent years and work with you to make sure you ensure your good health.
Located on the fifth floor of the Ambulatory Care Center at Boston Medical Center, 850 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118, we strive to make the Adolescent Center a place where you can feel safe; where you feel that your questions and concerns are respected; and where you feel that your right to privacy is protected.
Our patients, young men and women just like you, come from communities throughout Boston. Many have come to Boston from around the world and for many different reasons. Sometimes it's easy to visit the doctor (like when you need a school physical or feel sick); but at times it can also be difficult, frightening or embarrassing.
"I need help with my weight."
"Am I pregnant?"
"I always feel sad or alone - what's wrong with me?"
"I'm worried that I am HIV positive."
"I just can't take it at home anymore."
These are some of the concerns we hear behind closed doors every day. Your health and well-being is our primary concern and we take a comprehensive view of your health care needs. If you are having problems at home or in school, or if you feel endangered in any way, we want you to talk to us. There are many resources available here to help you with everything from a sore throat to lack of heat at home in winter. We can even help make sure you have food to eat and a safe place to stay at night. We have access to job training programs, day care programs to help young mothers and even college information.
In short, we don’t just treat the symptoms of illness, we take a broad view of what it means to be a healthy person and work to give our patients the tools they need to live healthy, productive lives. Whatever your health care needs, we are available to help. Stop by and check us out!
