BMC’s Yawkey building doors are now closed as an entrance as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our campus and provide you with the best clinical care.

All patients and visitors on our main campus must enter our hospital via Shapiro, Menino, or Moakley buildings, where they will be greeted by team members at a new centralized check-in desk before continuing to the hospital. We are excited to welcome you and appreciate your patience as we improve our facilities.

Intracranial pressure is the pressure inside your skull. It can be measured with an:

  • Intraventricular catheter: A tube inserted through a hole in the skull into an area of the brain that contains cerebrospinal fluid
  • Subdural screw: A hollow screw inserted through the membrane that protects the brain and spinal cord
  • Epidural sensor: A less-invasive method that uses a sensor put between the skull and brain

Intracranial pressure monitoring is usually done on people who have neurological emergencies, such as a severe head injury.
