Homemade Chai

Ingredients

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3 whole cardamom pods, lightly crushed (or ¼ teaspoon seeds)
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 (1/4 -inch) piece fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced
  • ½ teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 2 single-serve black tea bags or 1 tablespoon loose black tea
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 2 cups low-fat (1%) milk or almond milk

Instructions

  1. Place cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, peppercorns and 1 cup water into a small pot and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and set aside to steep for 10 minutes.
