Leroy

Meet Leroy, age 71. Leroy spent the first four years of his life in Myrtle Beach, SC, before moving to work on a farm with his father's family, where he stayed until his grandfather passed away. He spent years living in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and finally, Massachusetts, where he settled to be closer to his mother and his family.

Chatting with Leroy over a cup of coffee, it's easy to see how the Margaret M. Shea RN Adult Day Health Program has enriched his life. He began attending the program in 2005, after hearing about it through his brother Thomas, whose father-in-law had attended the program and really enjoyed it. Leroy has been attending the program for five days each week, ever since. He was initially attracted to the program because it provided a way to get out of the house and spend time with others.

Over the years, Leroy has grown to enjoy the camaraderie, friendship, and the variety of activities available through the program. Two of his favorite activities are coloring and arts and crafts. He has also forged many friendships that extend past the Adult Day Health Program's doors. In fact, he visits many of his friends from the program on weekends and also enjoys catching up with them on the phone.

When asked about the staff at the Margaret M. Shea RN Adult Day Health Program, Leroy says, "I love every one of them. Without them, I would not be here." He credits the staff for helping him whenever he's feeling ill or under the weather, and added that the program even helped him commit to a healthier lifestyle, giving him with the strength to quit drinking and smoking. "I love this program," he said.
