 AIDS dementia, or HIV-associated dementia, is a serious symptom of AIDS that is usually seen in later stages of the disease. It's caused by the HIV virus spreading to the brain.

Symptoms include:

- Brain swelling (encephalitis)
- Memory loss
- Problems concentrating
- Problems with speaking
- Cognitive impairment
- Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
- Loss of motor skills
