NEW: BMC Providing Third COVID-19 Vaccinations to Immunocompromised Patients

BMC is now providing third doses of COVID-19 vaccinations to moderately to severely immunocompromised patients who have already received two doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, consistent with the most recent CDC guidelines. Patients who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should not receive a booster at this time.

Eligible patients will appear in the Epic Storyboard and Health Maintenance as being due for a third dose based on existing data in their record. If the patient self-attests to being in a group that is eligible for a third dose or the clinician deems the patient eligible, the expectation of a third dose can be manually added to their record.

All patients who meet the criteria for a third dose will also be contacted directly by BMC.

Eligible patients can receive vaccine through the same channels where patients have received first doses: in the Dowling Clinic, by paging the roving vaccine team, or visiting any other COVID-19 community site.

NEW: Information on Employee Booster Shots Expected Soon

Currently, booster shots (third doses) of COVID-19 vaccines are not recommended for those who are not moderately to severely immunocompromised. The CDC and FDA are reviewing data and are expected to release updated guidelines.

BMC is working on a plan to provide booster shots to employees once these boosters are recommended by the CDC and FDA.

Moderately to severely immunocompromised employees and LIPs who are BMC patients and/or who received their first two COVID-19 vaccinations at BMC will be contacted directly regarding eligibility for a third dose.

REMINDER: All BMC Health System Employees and LIPs Must Be Vaccinated Against COVID-19 and Record Compliance in the Employee Health Portal by October 15, 2021

The deadline for COVID-19 vaccination compliance for BMC employees and licensed independent practitioners (LIPs) – which means having obtained at least one vaccine dose and entering your vaccination status in the Employee Health Portal is October 15, 2021. All requests for exemptions are due by September 17. All employees and LIPs must be compliant by October 15, 2021, in order to maintain employment status at Boston Medical Center Health System.

REMINDER: Eye Protection Must be Worn During All Patient Encounters

BMC is updating its guidelines for PPE use to reflect the increasing community prevalence of SARS-CoV-2. This guidance reinstates the need to wear eye protection during ALL in and outpatient encounters as community-level transmission is rising across the Commonwealth. You can find the updated PPE guidelines here.

REMINDER: COVID-19 Employee Testing Available

Getting tested for COVID-19 if you have any symptoms of, or exposure to, COVID-19 is an important way we can help continue to keep our community safe. While many vaccinated people only have mild symptoms, the risk of transmission is still significant. As we continue to all do our part in ensuring we mitigate the spread of COVID at BMC and within our communities, it is also important to use the asymptomatic testing available to employees.

All employee testing sites are by appointment only. Employee testing sites are:

  • Symptomatic employees, asymptomatic employees exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19, and asymptomatic employees who require post-travel testing: ILI Clinic, Crosstown ground floor. Email to schedule an appointment.
  • Asymptomatic screening, including pre-travel or pre-gathering or situations where documented negative clearance is needed: Employee Voluntary Testing, Crosstown ground floor. Employees can self-schedule an appointment through MyChart.

The most up-to-date COVID-19 testing information, including hours for each site, can be found on the Hub.
