REMINDER: Staying Safe During Holiday Travel and Gatherings

With Thanksgiving next week and the upcoming holiday season, we want to remind all staff and faculty of our travel policies, particularly as they relate to being cleared to return to work. Personal travel remains discouraged, particularly to restricted areas, and BMC work travel remains prohibited except in specific circumstances. In addition, please be aware of the current Massachusetts guidelines regarding holiday gatherings, particularly with large groups.

If you are planning to travel to restricted COVID areas, as designated by Massachusetts DPH COVID guidelines, consider the turnaround time for test results in order to return to work. Staff can only go back to work once they have been cleared by Working Well. All testing requires an appointment. Email [email protected] to request clinician support and make an appointment.

We know this Thanksgiving may be particularly hard, especially for those working, but it is essential that we all follow COVID-19 public health guidelines around gatherings both on and off campus. Please remember that communal sharing of food is not allowed on campus, and indoor gatherings of more than 10 people are prohibited in MA.

UPDATED: COVID-19 Employee Exposure Response – Version 9 Now Available

The guidelines for response to a potential employee COVID-19 case have been updated as of November 18. The major change involves the process for employees who have household members who are COVID-positive. These guidelines are available on the COVID-19 page on Hub. Previous versions of this document should be discarded.

REMINDER: Provider Notes and Test Results Now Available to Patients in MyChart

As of November 16, BMC has begun sharing clinical notes and test results (without delay) with patients via MyChart. This ensures our compliance with the Information Blocking Rule, a rule within the 21st Century Cures Act that passed in December 2016. More information and guidance about information blocking is available on the eMERGE section of the Hub.

NEW: COVID Biorepository Available for BMC and BU Researchers

In order to support Boston Medical Center and Boston University researchers in innovative and impactful science on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, BMC has established a COVID-19 Biorepository institutional resource. BMC/BU researchers can submit requests for discarded clinical samples from BMC COVID-positive patients and PUIs, as well as samples from a prospective cohort of COVID-19 admitted and ambulatory patients and survivors. Learn more on the COVID Biorepository BMC.org page.
