 ## BMC Health System and Golf Fights Cancer have partnered to bring free prostate cancer screening and connections to care directly into local communities, with additional support from Man Cave Health.

BOSTON | October 22, 2026 – Boston Medical Center Health System (BMC Health System) today announced the launch of a [mobile prostate cancer screening van](https://www.bmc.org/departments/urology/prostate-screening-van) that will bring free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood testing, education, and connections to follow-up care directly into Greater Boston communities. By offering screening at community events and other accessible locations, the program aims to reduce barriers to early detection and reach men who might otherwise go unscreened.

Representatives from Boston Medical Center Health System, Golf Fights Cancer, and Man Cave Health celebrate the launch of a new mobile prostate cancer screening van.

Prostate cancer affects approximately one in eight men during their lifetime, with Black men facing a disproportionately higher risk. Approximately one in six Black men will develop prostate cancer, and they are more than twice as likely as White men to die from the disease. The mobile program seeks to address persistent barriers to screening, including limited access to care, transportation challenges, and misconceptions about the screening process.

With the message, “Check your prostate. Keep your pants on,” the van aims to dispel a common misconception about prostate cancer screening: the PSA test is a simple blood test that does not require a digital rectal exam. At each event, participants can learn about their individual risk factors, including age and family history, and receive free PSA testing when appropriate.

“Screening can begin with a simple blood test, but we know that time, transportation and concerns about the process can prevent men from taking that first step,” said Mark H. Katz, MD, a urologic oncologist at Boston Medical Center. “This van allows us to bring that conversation into places people already know and trust. Just as importantly, it gives participants a clear connection to our care team if they need additional evaluation.”

The program aims to complete approximately 850 screenings in its first year, with patient care coordinators helping participants with elevated PSA results access further evaluation through BMC Health System's urology team. Led by Katz, the initiative builds on more than 15 years of his work expanding prostate cancer education, risk assessment and early detection in Boston neighborhoods.

The mobile screening program was made possible by a lead philanthropic investment from program partner [Golf Fights Cancer](https://golffightscancer.org/), which provided funding to launch the initiative and support ongoing operations, with additional support from [Man Cave Health](https://mancavehealth.org/). Funding for the program will support van personnel, clinical staff, van and clinical equipment, and community engagement efforts.

“Golf Fights Cancer exists to rally the golf community around bold, practical ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer,” said Brian Oates, chairman and co-founder of Golf Fights Cancer. “We are committed to helping bring lifesaving early detection directly to men in the communities where they live, work and gather, and BMC Health System was a natural partner because of the hospital’s deep commitment to cancer awareness and access to care. We are proud to help launch this program alongside BMC Health System and Man Cave Health and turn a shared vision into action.”

“Helping men take an active role in their health starts with making care feel approachable,” said Chris Masters, executive director of Man Cave Health. “This program creates opportunities for men to ask questions, learn about screening and connect with care close to home. We’re proud to work with BMC Health System and Golf Fights Cancer to bring these resources to more communities across Greater Boston.”

The van will make its community debut at the Deatrich Wise Annual Block Party on October 24, beginning at noon at the Josh Kraft Mattapan Teen Center, 10 Hazleton Street in Mattapan. The free event will offer prostate cancer screening alongside other health resources, youth activities, food and fresh produce.

The mobile program is part of BMC Health System's broader commitment to expanding access to comprehensive cancer care, from early detection through treatment and ongoing support. Boston Medical Center's nationally ranked Department of Urology and its Cancer Center's Genitourinary Cancer Program provide coordinated, individualized care across urologic surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology. The van brings that expertise directly into the communities BMC Health System serves.
