El carcinoma hepatocelular comienza en el hígado. Si bien las causas de este tipo de cáncer no están claras, el cáncer hepatocelular puede comenzar años después de una infección por hepatitis B o hepatitis C. Además, el consumo excesivo de alcohol, la obesidad y la diabetes pueden aumentar el riesgo de cáncer hepatobiliar.
