As men get older, prostate health becomes an important part of staying well. Taking a proactive step now can help you understand your risk and take care of your health before a concern becomes something more serious.

Now, BMC Health System is making it even easier to take that proactive step. In partnership with [Golf Fights Cancer](https://golffightscancer.org/ "Golf Fights Cancer (golffightscancer.org)") and [Man Cave Health](https://mancavehealth.org/ "Man Cave Health: Powering Men’s Health through Sports (mancavehealth.org)"), we’re bringing prostate cancer education and screening directly to men across greater Boston through a mobile program that travels to local health and sporting events.

## Designed to Meet Men Where They Are

BMC Health System’s mobile prostate screening van is bringing prostate cancer education, risk assessment, and screening to your community.

At each event, you can talk with our care team, ask questions, and learn more about your prostate cancer risk. If screening is right for you, we can also provide a simple prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. No digital exam is required, making the process more comfortable for men who may have been hesitant to get screened in the past.

If you need follow-up care, we will help connect you with additional BMC Health System departments and services, to ensure you know what to do next and where to go for support.

  ### A Mobile Approach to Prostate Cancer Screening

Led by Mark Katz, MD, the mobile prostate screening program builds on more than 15 years of his work bringing prostate cancer education and screening into Boston neighborhoods. Now, through this new BMC Health System mobile program, Dr. Katz is helping make PSA testing and follow-up care easier to access.

 ## Frequently Asked Questions

Screening for prostate cancer is a simple process. These answers can help you understand if screening is right for you, what to expect, and how the BMC Health System urology team supports patients after testing.

 ### Who is at risk for prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer can affect any man, but risk increases with age. If you’re a man between ages 40 to 70, it might be helpful for you to learn about your risk, especially if you have a family history of prostate cancer.

Overall, about one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Among African American men, that number is about one in six.

  ### What is a PSA test?

A prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test is a blood test that measures the level of PSA, a protein made by the prostate gland. It is commonly used to screen for prostate conditions, including prostate cancer.

The test only requires a blood draw, making it a simple, less invasive way to check prostate health.

  ### What are the benefits of getting tested?

A PSA test can help detect signs of prostate cancer early, often before symptoms appear. Early detection may give you more treatment options and can make treatment more effective.

Testing also provides helpful information about your prostate health and can offer peace of mind by helping you understand your risk and next steps.

  ### How long does it take?

Education and testing take about 10 to 15 minutes total, and results are typically available within three to five business days.

If your PSA level is elevated, a member of BMC Health System’s urology team will contact you directly to discuss next steps.
