Once the referral has been reviewed and approved, WRAP clinic staff will call the patient directly to schedule in the WRAP clinic. Clinical information describing the patient’s recent symptoms, illness course, and indications for specialty psychosis care is required. This can include: - A recent psychiatric evaluation note (emergency department, inpatient, or outpatient) - Hospital history and physical exam (H&P) - Discharge summary An up-to-date medication list is also needed. ### How long will it take for a referral to be reviewed? We have a large volume of referrals. Please allow **ten business days** for completed referrals to be reviewed. ### For what type of mental health conditions do you offer long-term treatment? Psychosis is a non-specific symptom that can result from multiple physical and mental health conditions. Our diagnostic criteria align with the clinical expertise of our team. For individuals **within the first five years of illness**, WRAP provides services through our multidisciplinary first-episode psychosis team for individuals whose psychotic symptoms are most likely due to a primary psychotic (for example, schizophrenia spectrum) or affective (bipolar spectrum or major depressive) disorder. For individuals **beyond the first five years of illness**, we offer long-term care for those with schizophrenia or bipolar spectrum disorders requiring expert pharmacology for: - Refractory symptoms or multiple hospitalizations, and/or those who would benefit from long-acting injectable medication or clozapine - Complex medical comorbidities or intolerable side effects Alternatively, for individuals with **psychosis primarily due to complex trauma or substance use**, we strongly recommend the expertise of our colleagues at Boston Medical Center: - [Addiction Psychiatry Treatment Program](/node/174816 "Department of Psychiatry: Addiction Psychiatry Treatment Program | Boston Medical Center (bmc.org)") (adults) - [CATALYST Clinic: Center for Addiction Treatment for Adolescents and Young Adults Who Use Substances](/node/116031 "Department of Pediatrics: Division of Adolescent Medicine: CATALYST Clinic | Boston Medical Center (bmc.org)") (adolescents and young adults ages 13–25) - [RESTORE Center: Recovery from Stress and Trauma through Outpatient Care, Research, and Education](/node/178658 "Department of Psychiatry: RESTORE Center | Boston Medical Center (bmc.org)") (adults, with a focus on PTSD) ### How soon can an intake/evaluation be scheduled? - **Adult patients** can typically be scheduled within four to five weeks. - **Patients under 18** may face extended wait times and should have a bridging care plan. Call [617.927.9809](tel:617.927.9809). ### Do patients need to engage in all WRAP services to receive care? No. Treatment is tailored to individual needs using a shared decisionmaking approach. ### Can a patient receive WRAP services while keeping an external psychiatric provider? Non-BMC referrals must see a provider within WRAP for any prescribed psychotropic medications. The coordinated specialty care model requires collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. One-time consultations for diagnostic clarification or treatment recommendations are also available.
