  ## Curbside Care Program

# What We Do and Who We Serve

Explore Curbside Care Program## Why Curbside Care?

![A woman in pajamas holds her newborn while sitting in a chair inside the BMC Curbside care mobile services van](/sites/default/files/inline-images/Rocio%20Aguasilva.jpg)- **Having a baby is hard!**
    - The postpartum period is very special, but also puts birthing people and newborns at risk for specific conditions.
    - Also known as the “fourth trimester,” this period sets the stage for future lifetime health outcomes for birthing people and newborns.
    - Birthing people of color are disproportionately affected by complications in pregnancy and postpartum.
- **We see you and your baby together.**
    - Maternal and infant health are deeply interconnected, but in most healthcare systems, this care is kept separate.
    - Curbside Care is a dyadic model of care, meaning we see you both together, in the same visit!
- **We provide expert medical and breastfeeding care.**
    - Our mobile van and staff will provide you with the same medical care you would typically get in the clinic.
    - Major health organizations recommend breastfeeding, but access to outpatient lactation support is limited.
    - As part of our program, every family giving breast milk will have an appointment with an expert lactation consultant.
- **We come to you!**
    - The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) estimates that 40 percent of birthing people do not attend postpartum appointments, often due to logistical barriers such as lack of transportation, long clinic wait times, and lack of childcare.
    - Our mobile clinic pulls up right outside your home or residence, eliminating barriers to care.
