 Please Note:Referrals are not necessary to establish primary care in the Adolescent Division. Outside facilities may refer patients to our Aftercare, CATALYST, CATCH, Menstrual Disorders, and Family Planning Clinics.

The Adolescent Division is dedicated to providing a high level of assistance to colleagues within Boston Medical Center and outside of the BMC system. Whether for diagnostics, treatment, a single consultation, second opinion, or ongoing follow up, BMC’s providers will keep the consulting provider fully informed of the patient’s treatment plan and coordinate long-term management.

 Explore Adolescent Medicine

 We offer primary care to youth and young adults, such as routine vaccinations, sports physicals, and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, as well as assistance transitioning from pediatric to adult medicine providers. In addition, our specialty clinics have expertise in the following areas:

- Addiction and substance use
    - Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of [substance use disorders](/content/substance-use-disorders) (SUDs)
    - Medications for substance use disorders
    - Overdose prevention education and naloxone
- Atypical menstruation
    - Complex contraception and menstrual management
    - Menstrual suppression
- Gender identity
    - Gender-affirming hormone therapy
    - Hormone blockers
- Gynecological care
    - Pap smears
    - Treatment of common/routine issues such as urinary tract infection (UTI) and vaginitis
- Multilingual, age-appropriate support with [basic resource needs](/care-our-community "Care in Our Community | Boston Medical Center"), such as:
    - Benefits navigation, for example connecting pregnant patients to [WIC](/node/3220/ "WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) Nutrition Program | Boston Medical Center")
    - Food and clothing
    - Housing instability

    - Referrals to community programs
    - Social, family, or other interpersonal issues
    - Transportation issues
- Pregnancy and parenthood

    - Pre-conception counseling

    - Pregnancy testing
- Sexual activity, sexual health, and family planning
    - Contraception, including emergency contraception, Nexplanon, and intrauterine devices (IUDs)
    - Counseling/education on reproductive and sexual health
    - Pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP)
    - Sexually-transmitted disease ([STD](/patient-care/conditions-we-treat/db/sexually-transmitted-diseases)) and [HIV](/patient-care/conditions-we-treat/db/hivaids) counseling, prevention, testing, and treatment
