 For children who are born with, or develop, problems with their hearts (cardiac disease), the pediatric cardiology team at Boston Medical Center (BMC) provides non-invasive inpatient and outpatient cardiac care and collaborates with [Boston Children’s Hospital](https://www.childrenshospital.org/services/cardiology "Department of Cardiology | Boston Children’s Hospital (childrenshospital.org)") if an intervention is needed.

The Pediatric Preventive Cardiology Clinic serves as a resource for patients up to age 21, focusing on preventing, diagnosing, and treating hypertension and high cholesterol, ensuring that children stay healthy into adulthood. This multidisciplinary program designed to make it as easy as possible for the patients and families to access an array of services in one place at one time. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is a non-invasive method of obtaining a patients’ blood pressure readings over a 24-hour period, whilst they are in their own environment, representing a true reflection of their blood pressure.

A stress test is used to gain more information about how your heart functions during exercise. Your physician will monitor your heartbeat and blood flow as you walk on a treadmill, and will then be able to diagnose any problems as well as plan treatment.
