NEW: Employees Must Continue to Wear Masks on Campus

Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and the state of Massachusetts both released guidance relaxing the mask requirements for fully vaccinated individuals when outdoors. However, at this time the requirements for wearing masks on BMC’s campus have not changed.

All employees are required to wear masks while on hospital property, even after being vaccinated:

  • Proper PPE is required for all patient care interactions.
  • Surgical masks must be worn when within hospital buildings.
  • Cloth masks are acceptable for wearing in outdoor areas on campus.

REMINDER: Three Feet Physical Distancing Policy Applies Only in Certain Areas of Hospital

As a reminder, all employees on the BMC campus must follow policies related to physical space and mask wearing regardless of vaccination status. The reduction in required physical distancing applies only to certain areas of the hospital (listed below) – in all other cases, there should be 6 feet of distance. Masks are required in all areas.

In-person meetings, if essential, should be limited to 10 people and the 6 feet of distance between attendees must be maintained.

Areas where distancing can be reduced to three feet are:

  • Charting rooms/support staff rooms
  • Offices
  • Research spaces. Please note: in general, use of research space, particularly those spaces that are laboratory-based, should conform to the MA guidelines; the expectation is that six feet of distance should still be maintained.
  • Training room spaces

This guidance is dependent on individuals continuing to wear masks in these spaces at all times. At least six feet of distance must be maintained if people are eating.

UPDATED: Use of Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Still Paused at BMC

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Federal Drug Administration recommended an end to the pause of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine. However, use of the vaccine is still paused at BMC, as well as at other hospitals across Massachusetts. We continue to have ample supply of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for staff and patients and will provide additional updates and information when we reinstate the use of Johnson & Johnson.

REMINDER: COVID-19 Testing Site Changes

The volume of COVID-19 testing at BMC and in Massachusetts has been on a steady decline. In order to align our testing sites to match demand, we have adjusted our testing site operations:

  • Crosstown ILI Testing Facility is closed on weekends. Employees that need weekend testing should schedule an appointment to be seen at the 710 Albany Testing Facility. Please reach out to COVID19WWC@BMC.ORG to schedule an appointment
  • The voluntary asymptomatic testing site located in the Menino Building, 2nd floor has been re-located to Crosstown ILI Testing Facility. Staff should continue to use the self-scheduled service through MyChart to make testing appointments.
