REMINDER: Three Feet Physical Distancing Policy Applies Only in Certain Areas of Hospital

We have heard feedback about some groups not following the new policy related to physical space and mask wearing. As a reminder, this is only for certain areas of the hospital (listed below) – in all other cases, there should be 6 feet of distance and masks are required. We must remain vigilant, regardless of vaccination status.

BMC reduced physical distancing requirements from 6 feet to 3 feet with masks in some hospital areas, only if necessary to perform your work. Areas where distancing can be reduced are:

  • Charting rooms/support staff rooms
  • Offices
  • Research spaces
  • Training room spaces

This guidance is dependent on individuals continuing to wear masks in these spaces at all times. At least 6 feet of distance must be maintained if people are eating.

NEW: Vaccination Eligibility Now Open to All Adults

As of Monday, April 19, all adults in Massachusetts 16 years of age or older are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination. BMC continues to vaccinate on our campus and at our community vaccination sites in Roslindale, Hyde Park, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. As of April 20, 73,000 first doses and 30,000 second doses have been given.

Patients and community members 18 years of age or older can schedule their vaccine at one of BMC’s vaccinations sites via this link. Individuals 16 and 17 years of age should arrange for vaccination through their pediatrician’s office.

NEW: COVID-19 Testing Sites Updates

The volume of COVID-19 testing at BMC and in Massachusetts has been on a steady decline since February 2021. In order to align our testing sites to match demand, we are adjusting our testing sites operations. Please see the below changes:

Effective Monday 4/26:

  • Crosstown ILI Testing Facility will be closed on weekends. Employees that need weekend testing will need a scheduled appointment to be seen at the 710 Albany Testing Facility. Please reach out to [email protected] to schedule an appointment
  • The voluntary asymptomatic testing site located in the Menino Building, 2nd floor will be re-located to Crosstown ILI Testing Facility. Staff should continue to use the self-scheduled service through MyChart to make testing appointments.

NEW: Booking Family Members for Vaccine Appointments

Vaccine appointments are now available for family members of BMC, BMCHP, and BUMG employees and clinicians. Appointments are available for those family members who are 18 years or older.

Family members are defined as immediate family members living within or outside of an employee’s household, and/or a family member’s caregiver. Employees or their eligible family member can click on this internal link and follow the prompts to schedule a vaccine appointment (works best in Chrome). The link can only be accessed through the internal network. If you are off-campus, you will need to connect to the network for access.

NEW: Volunteers Needed for Vaccine Outreach

We are expanding our vaccine outreach efforts to get the people within our most vulnerable communities vaccinated. A group will be going out into these communities for the next few weekends to greet people, answer questions and help them schedule  appointments. All volunteers will be in high foot traffic areas in Roxbury, Mattapan, and Dorchester and will have iPads to register people. This is a volunteer opportunity (not eligible for OT). BMC is looking for volunteers who want to help during one or more of the following shifts:

  • Saturday morning shift: 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. (one volunteer must have car to pick up materials from BMC)
  • Saturday afternoon shift 1 -5:30 p.m. (one volunteer must have car to drop off materials at BMC)
  • Sunday morning shift: 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Sunday afternoon shift: 1-5 p.m.

If you are available and are interested in helping out, please use the link below to sign up for a shift.
