NEW: N95 Distribution Through Scrub Machines and Re-Fit Testing

BMC will soon begin a new process of distributing N95 masks from scrub machines. This will begin with a pilot program on Thursday, June 18. During the pilot program:

  • The only masks that will be available from scrub machines are Gerson 1730 masks.
  • Masks will be available from the scrub machine in the Menino lobby, next to the current N95 distribution table.
  • Staff who have fit tested into a Gerson 1730 will be able to scan their BMC ID badge at the scrub machine to get their mask.

If you currently wear a Gerson 2130 mask or Precept Small mask, please remember that you need to be re-fit tested by the end of the week, as supplies of this mask are running low. There are gifts available at fit-testing to thank you for your time!

REMINDER: Restricted Visitor Policy Continues

As a reminder, BMC has restricted visitors to help protect the health of our patients and staff:

  • There are no visitors permitted on the inpatient units and the Emergency Department. The only inpatient exceptions are Labor and Delivery where one pre-approved visitor is allowed, and for compassionate end of life situations. 
  • This morning our Pediatric floor and PICU opened. Pediatrics and PICU allow one parent/guardian to visit. 
  • There are no visitors allowed in any Ambulatory clinic with two exceptions:
    • A parent accompanying a child who has an appointment
    • A caregiver accompanying a patient who is disabled, elderly, or otherwise needs a caregiver
  • If a visitor exception is approved for any area, the visitor will be screened and will not be permitted to visit if they have symptoms suggestive of COVID-19.

Per Phase 2 recommendations by the State, we are working to make changes to this policy to balance the needs of our patients while ensuring we have a safe hospital. 

NEW: “What Should I Do?: Navigating Difficult Emotions in the Workplace” Training Available for All Employees

All of us are feeling the weight of the pandemic in addition to the important and complex topics facing our community and nation today. With that in mind, our employee resiliency clinician Beth Milaszewski, LICSW, has created a training that leads participants to a clearer understanding of the human response to stressful situations, gives tips for recognizing signs of stress, and provides real-time strategies for re-centering.

Next week, we’ll be offering four of these virtual all-staff trainings. The sessions will be held:

REMINDER: Upcoming Refresh Stations

Refresh stations, sponsored by the HR Department, will be available for employees on the balcony of the Menino lobby on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, June 16: 6:30 – 9:30 a.m.
  • Friday, June 19: 2 – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 20: 10:30 p.m. – 1 a.m.

All staff are welcome to come through the station (which will be set up with appropriate social distancing) for a quick break and to grab a treat.

NEW: Meditations for Peace and Monday Meditation Sessions

Dr. Scarlet Soriano MD, ABIHM, will be holding meditations for peace on June 16 at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 7 p.m. These meditation sessions are open to all BMC employees and their families, and will include five minutes of brief conversation, 10 minutes of guided meditation, and five minutes of closing comments.
