NEW: Re-washable Isolation Gowns

There is currently a significant national shortage of single use isolation gowns. This week, we are transitioning to a washable gown (replacing the yellow gown).  The washable gowns will be stocked by supply chain and will be collected daily and laundered. These gowns have been evaluated by our Infectious Disease team and are thicker and more resistant than our current yellow gowns. They are designed for reuse and it is critical that the new gowns are placed in the marked gray bins so they can be washed and returned. Thank you for your ongoing flexibility as we work to ensure adequate PPE for all of our frontline staff.

NEW: KN95 Mask Usage

We know there have been some questions regarding the proper use of KN95 masks. Our Infectious Disease team has approved KN95 masks for use as an alternative to a surgical mask. KN95 masks are NOT an alternative for N95 masks and have not been used at BMC for that purpose.
NEW: Privacy and Public Health Authorities

COVID-19 contact tracing is now in effect in Massachusetts. The HIPAA Privacy Rule allows BMC to make limited disclosures to public health authorities for the purposes of disease surveillance and prevention. These disclosures must be limited to the minimum amount of information necessary for the public health authority to fulfill their mission.

  • Please forward all calls for patient information from a public health authority to Infection Control at 617-414-4958.
  • If a public health authority is asking for information about a BMC employee or healthcare worker, please contact the Working Well Clinic at [email protected]
  • To learn more, read the DPH memo here.
