UPDATED: N95 Collection and Reprocessing with Battelle
This morning we delivered our first batch of N95s for reprocessing to Battelle, which will perform sterilization with vaporized hydrogen peroxide (VHP). New masks are being labeled with our site code (BDW-00) by employees wearing gloves and face masks. The sterilized N95s will be returned to BMC in 2-3 days. As a reminder, we ask that all healthcare workers:
- Return used N95s in designated collection bins. These are located in all N95 clinical areas (often in soiled utility). Please ONLY put N95s in these bins. Our current collection rate of N95s is 25% and we are targeting 80%+ returns.
- Please refrain from using make-up/skincare products. N95s that are soiled will be discarded. We are finding ~20% of collected N95s are being rejected due to make-up and skincare products, which reduces our future supply.
REMINDER: Hotel Accommodations for Staff and Providers
BMC has secured funding to support a number of overnight stays at hotels in close proximity to BMC at no cost to the employee/provider. At this time, we are prioritizing the use of these rooms for providers and staff who may be facing one of the following circumstances:
- Cohabitation Related
- Providers and staff who cohabitate with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and remains symptomatic/quarantined
- Providers and staff who cohabitate with someone who is immunocompromised (e.g., on immuno-suppressants, active hematologic malignancy)
- Work Hours Related
- Providers and staff working long hours with minimal time between consecutive shifts
To request an accommodation, send an email to [email protected] with a copy to your manager stating the following: your name, a brief description of your need, and desired dates/anticipated duration for your stay. Kelly will support your accommodation process from start to finish, and may follow up with your manager, if necessary. Additional details can be found here.
NEW: Changing Your Dependent Daycare FSA Contributions
In light of recent events, some dependent flexible spending account (FSA) daycare participants may want to change their level of participation for 2020. The amount you contribute to your FSA dependent daycare can only be changed mid-year due to a qualifying life event, which includes when you have a change in cost, a need for care, or a daycare provider. This may apply if your daycare provider has changed or closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you experience a qualifying life event and would like to decrease your FSA dependent daycare election, please submit your request via Workday and use the “Reduce DCFSA” life event. This must be completed within 30 days of the life event. You will need to upload supporting documentation.
This change does not allow you to un-enroll from the FSA dependent daycare benefit plan. If you have any questions, please contact the Benefits Team at [email protected] or 617-638-8500.
