#  Get Help with Breastfeeding

## At the Hospital

While you’re in the hospital, we have many people who can help with breastfeeding. Ask questions so you feel comfortable and confident before going home:

- Your **nurse** is trained to help you with breastfeeding.
- You can get a **lactation consultant** (breastfeeding specialist) visit if you have pain or trouble feeding.

## At a Clinic

We have several clinics where you can get help with breastfeeding your baby.

### BMC Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Center

The [BMC Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Center](/departments/obstetrics-and-gynecology/obstetrics/resources-patients/breastfeeding-and-lactation-medicine-center "Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology: Division of Obstetrics: Patient Resources: The Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Center | Boston Medical Center (bmc.org)") offers visits during pregnancy to prepare for breastfeeding and after birth to help with questions or challenges.

Ask your provider for a referral. Both in-person and telehealth visits are available.

### Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC)

In addition to helping with nutrition, [WIC](https://www.mass.gov/orgs/women-infants-children-nutrition-program "Women, Infants, & Children Nutrition Program | Commonwealth of Massachusetts (mass.gov)") offers breastfeeding assistance from lactation consultants and peer counselors.

## At Home

If you need help breastfeeding while you’re at home, you can use one of these resources:

    - Fill out the [online form](https://newenglandmothersfirst.com/request-an-appointment/) to request a consult.
    - Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking lactation consults are available.
- **Vital Village** offers support groups

    - Boston Breastfeeding Coalition Warmline: Call [857.301.8259](tel:857.301.8259) or email <breastfeedingboston@gmail.com>. Available seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- **BMC Breastfeeding Warmline:** Call [617.414.6455](tel:617.414.6455)
    - Response time is usually 24 to 48 hours.
- [**La Leche League of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont**](https://www.lllmarivt.org/findagroup "La Leche League of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont (lllmarivt.org)") has information available in many languages, and opportunities to find a local support group.
