It's with a heavy heart that BMC announces the passing of the beloved therapy dog, Dexter. Dexter, a boxer handled by BMC employee Mike Hurley, pioneered the Healing Pups program following the Boston Marathon bombings in April 2013 when Dexter and Mike visited the SICU Family Waiting Room. Almost instantly, Dexter was greeting victims and their families as if they were his new best friends.
It was hard not to smile when you saw Dexter. He brought comfort to patients who were anxious about a visit or hospital stay and lifted the spirits of BMC staff when they needed it most. BMC will always be grateful for Dexter's service and unconditional love.
