Internal and Preventive Medicine Combined Residency Launched at BMC

Internal and Preventive Medicine Combined Residency Launched at BMC

Furthering our commitment to the communities we serve, BMC has launched an internal medicine and preventive medicine combined residency program. This is the only such program in Massachusetts and one of just five such programs in the U.S. The residency is offered in partnership with the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). It is funded through a five-year Preventive Medicine Grant totaling nearly $2.4 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration(HRSA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The four-year residency will provide the opportunity to train in two well-established programs, enabling residents to develop the skills to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing medicine and the health care industry. Participants will receive a broader scope of training, in the same time that it takes to complete a traditional residency, and will be ready to pursue a dual-track career caring for historically underserved urban populations. Residents will approach the modern-day issues facing these patients from clinical, research, and leadership perspectives. The ultimate goal is to improve the health of our communities through education and emphasis on the importance of preventive medicine and primary care.

The first class of residents – Krupa Patel of Boston University School of Medicine and Jenny Jia of the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, – began on June 25. Congratulations and best wishes as you begin your residency journey!
