BMC to Host National Prescription Drug Take-Back Event

BMC to Host National Prescription Drug Take-Back Event

On September 26, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Boston Medical Center will be a host site for the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) 10th annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The purpose of this day is to provide the community with a safe way to dispose of expired or unwanted medications. It’s also a chance for BMC staff to educate the public on safety and health issues that are associated with medication. For instance, medication stored in cabinets are more likely to be subjected to misuse and abuse. Additionally, medications that are disposed in the toilet or trash can be both a safety and health hazard.

Bins located in the valet drop-off area at the Menino Pavilion will be available for the public to anonymously drop off their unneeded prescription medications. To dispose of the medication, you can drive or walk up to the bins. BMC staff will be present to assist in the disposal process and answer any questions that may arise. Types of medications that will be collected include pills and other solids. Liquids, needles, or other sharps will not be accepted.
