## About

Eduardo A. Vega, MD, is a general, hepato–pancreato–biliary (HPB), and gastrointestinal (GI) oncology surgeon in the Boston Medical Center Health System (BMC Health System). He practices at both Boston Medical Center – Brighton (BMC Brighton), where he serves as Program Director for the hospital’s Minimally Invasive Hepato–Pancreato–Biliary (HPB) Fellowship, and at Boston Medical Center. He is an Assistant Professor of ... Surgery at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Vega earned his medical degree from the Universidad de los Andes in Santiago, Chile, and stayed in Santiago to complete his residency training in general surgery at the Hospital Dr. Sótero del Río. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, followed by a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Hepato–Pancreato–Biliary (HPB) Surgery at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center (now BMC Brighton) through Tufts University School of Medicine. This latter experience lead to innovative prognostic solutions for gallbladder cancer and pancreatic cancer that have been documented in multiple publications.

Dr. Vega’s research focuses on novel techniques and technologies to treat complex liver and pancreatic cancer. He has designed multiple innovative techniques that use 3D reconstruction software to treat HPB disease—findings that have been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals including *Annals of Surgical Oncology*. The reciprocal relationship between clinical surgery and research is a primary focus for Dr. Vega, as his ultimate goal is to apply innovative solutions to healthcare needs, especially in geographic areas with limited health resources.

Dr. Vega is currently a member of several national and international organizations, including the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the joint International/Americas Hepato–Pancreato–Biliary Association.
