Research Scholars Program:
Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH)



Who Is Eligible To Apply?
  • Junior faculty members (must have faculty appointment prior to funding)
  • Interest in pursuing clinical research career in women's health
  • No other career development award and not current funded through the NIH
  • Commitment from section chief/chair for 80% protected time for developing research career (letter must accompany application)

Application Process:
Please access our website at www.bmc.org/womenshealth or contact the Assistant Program Director, Bonnie J. Sherman, Ph.D. at 617-638-8033 for application materials. The application process is described in detail on the website. Contact with one of the program mentors is strongly recommended in the development of the application since one of the mentors will oversee your work during the Scholars Program. A list and short bios of all BIRCWH mentors is available on our website.

Applicants are strongly urged to contact the Program Director early in the course of their application development to discuss the details of the program, and choose a mentor for support.

Budget
Scholars are allotted $92,000 annually. The program also provides statistical and methodological support towards clinical and health services research. The budget may be used to cover salary (including fringe benefits), tuition for those completing MSc programs, books and fees, research supplies and equipment and research personnel, travel within the Untied States for training or one scientific meeting per year. The budget may not be used for mentors, administrative costs or renovations.
