Research Scholars Program – BIRCWH Mentors

Alan Jette, PhD

Alan M Jette is Dean of the Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He oversees Departments with master and doctoral programs, in Communication Disorders, Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. The College has an active research agenda in addressing late-life function through the Center for Rehabilitation Effectiveness. The Center was awarded a 5-year research and training grant through the Department of Education's national Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research to develop outcome measures of disability. Dr. Jette is also Director of the Center of the Enhancement of Late-Life Function, addressing behavioral interventions, physical activity counseling and functional assessment instruments. Other studies include motor control and muscle activity in elderly subjects.

Dr. Jette is investigator on several specific projects within these Centers. These include a project to develop and evaluate outcome measures across post-acute setting, and a project to develop improved measures of functional limitations and disability.

Dr. Jette and his colleagues have collaborative efforts with the Center for Gerontology and Dr. Silliman, and the Alzheimer's Center with Dr. Greene. His experience in providing mentoring to junior faculty and develop interdisciplinary projects addressing the issues of disability will provide a strong interdisciplinary link for the BIRCWH.
