ResearchThe New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center (NERSCIC) is one of the original Model Systems for spinal cord injury care, first awarded this honor in 1973 by the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). NERSCIC is one of only 14 Model Systems to receive funding for the next five years, 2006-2011. To expand throughout New England, Boston Medical Center created the NERSCIC Network with Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, CT and a more limited partnership with Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem, NH. Our goal is to improve the health and function of people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) through innovative science and technology in three areas: 2. Comprehensive, state-of-the-art care. The NERSCIC Network’s main focus is developing the first-ever New England Standard of Care for SCI, so all people receive the same level of care throughout our New England Network. To keep us on track in everything we do, we must thank our dedicated Staff. And our Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) makes sure we stay focused on the community we serve. For more information about our center, watch a slideshow or download the NERSCIC brochure (PDF). Learn more about the Model Systems by visiting the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) website and click on the “Spinal Cord Injury” tab.
