The Department of Rehabilitation Therapies encompasses Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology and Therapeutic Recreation. Physical therapist, occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist provide inpatient (acute care units, Transitional Care Unit, Center for Rehabilitation) and outpatient services. The certified therapeutic recreation specialist provides services on Boston Medical Center’s acute rehabilitation unit also known as the Center for Rehabilitation.
Our department values exceptional customer service. We work together with our patients and their families, physicians, and Boston Medical Center staff and are committed to achieving excellence in patient care through clinical mentorship, supervisory meetings, evidence-based practice, peer review, competency assessment and performance evaluation.
We assist staff in the developmentof both basic and advanced specialty skills through assessment and treatment of patients with a wide variety of diagnoses, in-service training, continuing education courses, and support of formal postgraduate education. We foster career development through supervision and support of special interests, participation in the department clinical ladder program, and upward mobility within the department. We empower our staff and provide a supportive learning environment.
We collaborate with local and national universities to provide a well-rounded learning experience for physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology students. We also pursue opportunities to educate other health care providers and the community at large.
