Bi-Monthly Evening Lecture Series

Thank You for Your Interest in the

Stepping Forward - Staying Informed

Consumer Education Program

Presented by

The New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center at

Boston Medical Center

The Stepping Forward - Staying Informed Consumer Education Program is an innovative educational program designed to educate individuals living with spinal cord injury, their family members, and health care professionals working in the field of spinal cord injury about current research projects seeking a cure for spinal cord injury and emerging treatment techniques that are increasing quality of life for those living with paralysis.

This program brings the research being done by scientists to those living with spinal cord injury in an accessible format. Providing an educational opportunity in an environment where consumers, their family members, and health professionals have access to researchers and clinicians from around the country who are presenting their work in terms easily understood by those without a medical or scientific background.

The Stepping Forward - Staying Informed Consumer Education Program is a two part program consisting of an annual one-day conference and a bi-monthly evening lecture series.

The annual conference takes place in the fall of each year and is held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in South Boston. This all day event brings 4-5 researchers and clininicians from around the globe to Boston to discuss current research and emerging treatment techniques in the field of spinal cord injury. Organizations and Vendors who serve those with spinal cord injury are on hand in the exhibit space to provide information about their products and services. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments are provided.

For more information about this years annual conference click here.

The evening lecture series takes place every other month (typically January, March, May, July, and November each year) in the Heibert Lounge of the Boston University School of Medicine located on the Boston Medical Center Campus. Each lecture features one speaker discussing a topic related to spinal cord injury, such as research, quality of life, or treatment techniques.  This 90-minute session begins with the guest speaker presenting their work for 45--minutes, followed by a 45-minute open discussion where audience members are able to speak at length with the presenter.  We have found this format gives attendees the opportunity to hear how the work presented will or will not specifically affect them or their family members.   Many of the speakers at the evening lecture series have presented at the annual conference where they were able to give an overview of their work. A light dinner is served before each lecture.
