ServicesRehabilitation UnitIn 1996, BMC opened the Center for Rehabilitation, a new, state-of-the-art inpatient rehabilitation facility housed within the Menino Pavilion. As a patient in this 12-bed unit, you will receive individualized care from compassionate physicians, rehabilitation nurses, therapists and other specialized caregivers. The Center's rehabilitation services are geared toward a wide range of rehabilitation diagnoses including spinal cord injury rehabilitation, orthopedic and multi-trauma rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation and amputee rehabilitation. Your Care TeamYour individualized rehabilitation team is the backbone of your care. Physicians with board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation – known as physiatrists – will lead your team. Our nurses, who each have specialized training in rehabilitation and more than 20 years of nursing experience, will oversee your day-to-day care. Other professionals who may be on your team include: Physical Therapists, who evaluate and treat a variety of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders to help improve your muscle strength, flexibility, mobility, balance, coordination and endurance; Occupational Therapists, who develop programs to improve you ability to perform activities of daily living and to use adaptive equipment to increase your functional independence; Speech/Language Pathologists, who design programs to help you overcome communication problems following injury or illness; Recreational Therapists, who work with you and your family to discover new ways of participating in a variety of recreational and leisure activities. As part of the rehabilitation process, you will participate in daily therapy under the direction of your primary rehabilitation team. Your program will be specifically designed for your personal needs. Your family and friends will be provided with the training they need to assist you in your recovery. Your rehabilitation team will help you and your family develop realistic, achievable goals by using an interdisciplinary approach to recovery. Your team will help you realize that rehabilitation is as much what you do for yourself as it is what doctors and other caregivers do for you. CommitmentThe Center for Rehabilitation is committed to following the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, providing 3 hours of one-on-one individualized therapy to each patient daily. Patients also participate in educational sessions, social support sessions and therapeutic groups, specific to their diagnoses. These additional interventions are used to supplement their intensive individualized therapy sessions. |
