Learn more about our spinal cord injury rehabilitation program. Our stroke rehabilitation program offers comprehensive medical management and rehabilitation services for individuals experiencing functional changes due to a recent cerebral vascular accident or stroke. The rehabilitation team focuses on rebuilding function, improving communication skills and increasing skills for mobility, personal care and activities of daily living. Through interdisciplinary medical and therapeutic assessments, we establish an individualized treatment plan focused on improving your functional status, motor skills, awareness, perception and recreational and social skills. Education and support are key components to rehabilitation. During your recovery, you will have access to peer mentors, individuals who have suffered a stroke and regained function and returned to the community. You will also take part in educational sessions to learn about the risk factors, early warning signs and prevention of stroke. The Center for Rehabilitation has a close affiliation with the hospital stroke service which has been designated by the Department of Public Health as a Stroke Center of Excellence. We collaboratively run a monthly stroke survivors group meeting for individuals to seek support from staff members and peers. Multi-Trauma and Orthopedic Rehabilitation The Center for Rehabilitation offers comprehensive programs for the evaluation, treatment and management of a variety of orthopedic conditions including joint replacements and multiple fractures. In addition, we focus on the care, treatment and rehabilitation of people who have suffered multiple wounds or injuries. Our program is designed to restore your strength, reduce your risk of future injury and maximize your functional independence. The rehabilitation team provides skin and wound care, individual psychological support and, if necessary prosthetic and orthotic evaluation, prescription and training. Your rehabilitation team provides continuous care with your surgeon, as well as other specialists at Boston Medical Center who can treat many of the complications of trauma. Our rehabilitation services focus on medical treatment, physical rehabilitation and psychological support for people who have had an upper or lower limb amputation. The rehabilitation team provides prosthesis education, fitting and training, gait training, skin care education and vocational counseling. You will have access to specialists at Boston Medical Center who can manage and treat medical issues related to amputations, such as vascular complications and wound and pain management. The Center for Rehabilitation offers ongoing professional and peer counseling along with support services for you and your family. Because our goal is to prepare you to return to your community, we offer programs in vocational rehabilitation and skills training, as well as a variety of social activities. |
