Dr. Mark S. Nash, PhD.

Mark S. Nash, Ph.D., FACSM is an Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery, Rehabilitation Medicine and Physical Therapy at the Miller School of Medicine of the University of Miami. He received his Doctoral Degree in Applied Physiology and Clinical Anatomy from the University of Toledo and the Medical College of Ohio in 1984.  His last year of professional preparation was spent as a Doctoral Fellow in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation. Thereafter, Dr. Nash was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine as Director of the Functional Electrical Stimulation Laboratory, and the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation as Project Coordinator for the NIDRR-funded South Florida Regional Spinal Cord Injury System.  When The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis was founded in 1985 Dr. Nash was named a founding Principal Investigator, a position he still holds today. His professional preparation in human biochemistry, applied physiology, and cardiovascular rehabilitation has been widely applied to studies of voluntary and electrically-stimulated exercise in persons with spinal cord injuries. His federal grant awards have focused on exercise and pharmacological intervention on dyslipidemia and incipient cardiovascular disease after SCI.  Dr. Nash is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and currently serves as Director of Applied Physiology Research for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, and Director of Research for the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
