Enrollment in clinical studies
BMC is a study site for various cooperative groups such as:
- NSABP (National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project)
- RTOG (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group )
- SWOG (Southwest Oncology Group)
Because clinical trials offer the most up-to-date treatment available, patients who
participate in a clinical trial may benefit from the newest research. Many patients
derive comfort from knowing that the knowledge gained will make an important contribution
to medical science and may help other people with cancer.

IRB #2002-412G/RTOG #H0129
A PHASE III TRIAL OF CONCURRENT RADIATION AND CHEMOTHERAPY (FOLLOWED BY SURGERY FOR RESIDUAL
PRIMARY/N2-3 NODAL DISEASE) FOR ADVANCED HEAD AND NECK CARCINOMAS
This trial is designed for patients with locally advanced cancers of the head
and neck. One of the standard treatment options for this type of cancer is radiation
therapy (one treatment per day, 7 weeks) combined with chemotherapy. The main purpose of this
study is to compare the effectiveness of this standard treatment with another method of giving
radiation treatments (one to two treatments per day, 6 weeks), combined with the same chemotherapy.
