Breast & Cervical Cancer Initiative
Specialized Outreach Program

 IN ENGLISH  IN HAITIAN CREOLE

Women can prevent many deaths from breast or cervical cancer. Two tests, called mammogram and Pap smear, permit a woman to find cancer when it is very small, so that it can be treated. A woman age 40 or older should have these two tests every year. For the past ten years, many women have taken advantage of these tests, and the rate of death from breast and cervical cancer has greatly decreased.

Haitian women sometimes have difficulty in obtaining these services because they do not speak English, or because they fear trouble with immigration authorities if they go to the hospital, or because they have neither health insurance nor money to pay for the tests, or because they simply do not know that they should have these tests.

To save the lives of Haitian women, Haitian Health Institute is making these tests available free of charge to:

  • women over 40 years old
  • who are uninsured or underinsured
  • and whose income does not exceed certain guidelines.

We will have many activities to let Haitian women know that these tests are available free of charge. We will speak in churches, on the radio, to community organizations, on television, in the supermarkets, beauty salons, and private homes--everywhere we can find Haitian women--so that we can give them the good news.

If you, or a family member or friend should have these tests, call Haitian Health Institute and ask for the "Special Outreach Program."

Our telephone number is (617) 414-7702.

Yon fanm kapab evite mouri okòz kanse nan tete oubyen kansè nan seviks, sa yo rele, kòl matris. De tès, ki rele mammogram ak Pap smear, kapab pemèt yon fanm jwen kansè lè l tou petit, pou li kapab gueri. Yon fanm ki gen plis pase karant an dwe fe de tes sa yo chak ane. Depi dizan, anpil fanm pwofite fè tes sa yo, e konsa vale fanm ki mouri okòz kansè nan tete oubyen kansè nan seviks bese anpil.

Fanm Ayisyen kapab gen difikilte pou rive jwenn sevis sa yo, paske yo pa pale angle, oswa yo panse yo kapab gen pwoblem avèk imigrasyon si y ale nan lopital, oswa yo pa gen asirans lasante epi tou yo pa gen kob pou peye pou tès sa yo, oswa yo inikman pa konnen yo dwe fe tès sa yo.
