Our team of residency preceptors are highly skilled clinicians with diverse backgrounds and interests.  Below you will find a brief biography for each preceptor, most of whom are involved in several of the residency programs. 
These talented individuals make up an exceptional team that is one of the greatest strengths of the Boston Medical Center residency programs.

Lori Arena, PharmD, BCPS, CDE 
Clinical Specialist, Primary Care;

Dr. Arena holds a faculty appointment as adjunct clinical instructor at Northeastern University.  She provides numerous continuing education lectures in diabetes management, as well as precepts students in Primary Care.

Lindsay Arnold, PharmD, BCPS

Practice/Research Interests: Acute decompensated heart failure, glycemic control in hospitalized patients

Dr. Arnold is actively involved in ACCP, serving as Chair of the Adult Medicine PRN.  She is also serves as secretary of the BMC Endocrine Subcommittee and the co-chair Anti-thrombotic Task Force.  She has presented research in the areas of glycemic control and thromboprophylaxis.

Dr. Bridges plays an important role in ensuring optimal antibiotic treatment at Boston Medical Center.  She enjoys educating others in the area of infectious disease and antibiotic use.  She is a lecturer at Boston University School of Medicine and at Boston University School of Dental Medicine.

Diana Clarke, PharmD

Dr. Clarke has been involved in the field of pediatric HIV pharmacotherapy and perinatal transmission since the start of the NIH HIV Treatment Networks. She provides counseling for patients in the pediatric HIV and ID specialty clinics and coordinates investigational studies involving antiretroviral medications. Dr. Clarke serves on both domestic and international pediatric HIV guideline committees and is a member of the leadership group for IMPAACT.

Richard Dion, PharmD 
Medication Safety Specialist - Office of Quality & Patient Safety

Practice/Research Interests: Safe medication administration and advancing technology for the benefit of patient safety
Rotations Offered: Longitudinal Practice Management

Dr. Dion precepts PGY1 residents in our Practice Management seminar series, including leading a mock Root Cause Analysis.  Dr. Dion serves on multiple committees dedicated to quality and patient safety including the Patient Safety Steering committee, Medication Safety and Quality committee, and the Antithrombotic Task Force.  He is involved in medication error investigations and quality improvement projects throughout the medical center.

Peter Golenia, PharmD, BCPS
Clinical Specialist, Emergency Medicine

Practice interest: Clinical toxicology, ACLS pharmacotherapy, procedural sedation
Research: MDRD vs CG for renal dose adjustment of medications, fluoroquinolone associated hyperglycemia, pharmacy resident attrition and termination

Dr. Golenia is a clinical specialist in Emergency Medicine. He holds a Clinical Adjunct Faculty appointment at the University of Rhode Island.

Barry Graime, RPh, MS
Information Systems Pharmacist

Practice/Research Interest: Streamlining information technology systems to improve pharmacy workflow
Rotations Offered: Pharmacy Informatics

Mr. Graime is an integral member of the pharmacy department keeping all systems running smoothly.  He has recently begun to offer a rotation in pharmacy informatics.  Development of skill in this area is increasingly necessary to function efficiently with the rapidly advancing technology in healthcare.

Dr. Horbowicz precepts students from Northeastern University and the University of Buffalo.  He serves on the BMC Critical Care Committee and is also involved in research on the use of epoprostenol for pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Killius precepts pharmacy students from Northeastern University and the University at Buffalo, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.  She has a background in critical care and solid organ transplantation. She actively participates in committees and work groups to improve the efficiency and safety of ordering of medications in the BMC Emergency Department.

Dr. Papadopoulos's committment to education in the clinical setting is evident in her many pursuits.  She precepts students from Northeastern University and MCPHS.  She is involved in the BMC surgical residency education curriculum and is a member of the Consortium of Boston Teaching Hospitals Continuing Education Steering Committee. Dr. Papadopoulos was recently appointed Chair-Elect for SCCM Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacology’s Membership Committee.  She looks foward to precepting residents in the Practice Management rotation.

Dr. Sane precepts PGY1 and PGY2 residents primarily in inpatient Oncology.  She also precepts students from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.

Justin Saulino, PharmD, CACP

Practice/Research Interest: Reducing heart failure re-admissions, improving health literacy in an urban patient population
Rotations Offered: Outpatient cardiomyopathy clinic, anticoagulation clinic

Dr. Saulino has a unique role seeing patients through the continuum of care.  He provides counseling and medication therapy management to patients in the cardiomyopathy clinic, and also provides heart failure education to hospitalized patients prior to discharge.

Bhavesh Shah, RPh, BCOP

Practice/Research Interest: anemia, anorexia/cachexia, peripheral neuropathy, iron deficiency
Rotations Offered: Chemotherapy clinic, inpatient hematology/oncology

Mr. Shah precepts PGY1 and PGY2 residents, primarily in the Solomont Center for Hematology and Medical Oncology Clinic. In 2004, he received a BMC We Care employee recognition award for his committment to patient care.  He serves on various committees in the Hematology Oncology department  including the Data Safety Monitoring Board, Scientific Review committee, and Hematology/Oncology CIA committee.  He is also the principal investigator of a an on-going prospective active drug trial evaluating the safety and tolerability of megestrol acetate in combination with oxandrin in cancer-related anorexia/cachexia.

Dr. Vreeland served as PGY1 program director and pediatric clinical specialist from until recently accepting her new position in Pharmacy Operations. She enjoys pediatric pharmacy for the challenge and rewards of helping the medical center's most vulnerable patients improve their health through the safe and effective use of medications. She looks forward to precepting residents in the administrative aspects of pharmacy practice.

Dr. Douglass precepts numerous Northeastern University students at BMC each year.  His rotation in Internal Medicine gives residents the opportunity to become more involved in precepting.  He has conducted research on pain management education for medical interns, residents, and attendings.  He has been recognized by Northeastern University with the Vice President's Award for Outstanding Advisor Involvement for his work with the Phi Delta Chi fraternity.
