Prescription medication can be one of the most challenging aspects of managing your healthcare. At Boston Medical Center, our pharmacy team is here to help. Every time you fill a prescription with us, our pharmacy will review your information to ensure the medication is appropriate and interacts safely with any other medications you may be taking.

Across the hospital, BMC pharmacists not only support those who are hospitalized, having treatments and procedures, and are getting ready to go home, but we also have retail and specialty pharmacies and a mail order service. We also offer pharmacist consultations in many of our clinics so you can have your questions answered during your doctor's appointments.

At BMC, we recognize that many patients worry about the cost of filling their pharmacy prescriptions. We are committed to helping each patient access the resources they need to pay for medication so their conditions can be treated. In addition, we can help patients with their insurance and connect them to our patient financial services team who can help them sign up for Medicaid, if necessary.

Retail Pharmacies

There are four retail pharmacies located on the BMC campus: Crosstown Center, Preston Building, Shapiro Ambulatory Care Center, and Yawkey Ambulatory Care Center. These pharmacies can fill prescriptions from your providers at BMC. At the Shapiro pharmacy, you can also transfer prescriptions from a different pharmacy to BMC so that all of your medications are filled at one location.

"I receive excellent service at your pharmacy. I'm greeted with a friendly smile, service is courteous, and I am contacted when I need to refill my prescription and when it's ready to pick up. I haven't seen this level of efficiency elsewhere."

Programs and Services

Specialty Pharmacy

Specialty medications are those that cannot be filled through a traditional pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens. To support you with these prescriptions, BMC has a specialty pharmacy on campus. This is a benefit to you because:

  • You can pick up your medication when you are on campus (or have it delivered to you at the doctor's office or mailed to you)
  • BMC can manage all of your prescriptions, not just specialty ones, so we can ensure you are taking everything correctly and getting the refills you need when you need them
  • You can connect with a specialty pharmacist to ask questions and receive advice about your medication
  • Depending on your diagnosis, you may be assigned a specialty pharmacy liaison who will be your 1:1 support as you manage these medications

Mail Order Prescription Services

Often, people are prescribed medications that they will take for a long time. When this happens, receiving your medications at home by mail is a convenient way to make sure you don't run out, and it saves you from making a trip to the pharmacy. With Cornerstone Health Solutions, you will pay your normal insurance copayment for the medicine, and there is no charge for mailing it to you.

If you are interested in enrolling in the mail order program our mail order service, which is called Cornerstone Health Solutions, at 781.805.8220.

Online Refills

Now, you can monitor your Cornerstone Pharmacy prescriptions and order refills through our secure online portal. Simply refill and create an account! You can see your prescriptions online, or download the app for Android or iOS on your smartphone.

Multi Med Packaging

Many times, people find themselves taking more than one medicine at a time. It can be hard to manage numerous pill bottles and remember if a certain medicine has been taken at a certain time of day. To avoid you having to sort through medications and remember if you have taken them or not, our pharmacists in the Yawkey Pharmacy are able to package multiple medications together so that you are sure to take the right medications at the right time of day.

To find out if multi-med packaging is right for you, please call 617.414.0571 or email med.adherencepack@bmc.org.

My Medicine Health

People managing many medications can benefit from a dedicated pharmacy contact to help manage prescriptions. For eligible patients, My Medicine Health offers a direct phone number to an assigned pharmacist for one-to-one service, assistance handling insurance issues, monthly refill management, and convenient deliver options – either to your appointment in the clinic, or to your home.

To find out if you are eligible, talk to a pharmacy representative in the Yawkey Pharmacy, located in the Yawkey Ambulatory Care Center at 850 Harrison Ave, call 617.414.0550, or email mymedicinehealth@bmc.org.

Anticoagulation Clinic

The BMC Anticoagulation Clinic operates Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Preston 4.

Clinic walk-in hours for established patients to receive point-of-care INR testing:

  • Monday – Thursday, 8 – 11:45 a.m.; 1 – 3:45 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 – 11:45 a.m.

New patients must have a scheduled appointment and cannot use walk-in hours for establishing care.

Compounds

Sometimes, patients are prescribed either oral or topical medications that need to be compounded, or created, by mixing different medications together. For our patients' convenience, all three of our retail pharmacies offer simple compounding services.

For Individuals with Tuberculosis (TB)

We are proud to partner with the Department of Public Health and many area health centers to help patients with tuberculosis (TB) complete their course of treatment. When a diagnosis is made at a health center, BMC pharmacy fills the necessary prescriptions and the health center distributes them to the patient. BMC also connects the patient to a BMC pharmacist who connects regularly with the patient to answer questions, ensure medication is being taken, and help the patient have the best possible chance of curing the disease.
