Nutrition Counseling is provided by a registered dietitian (RD). During a counseling session, the dietitian works with each client and/or parents/guardians to teach healthy eating habits. Counseling is individualized based on the client’s medical, social and ethnic background. Meal plans, food label reading, recipe modification and shopping tips are also provided if needed. The RD and the patient develop goals to together that are realistic for promoting good health.
When your doctor sends the dietitian a referral, he or she will provide information to the dietitian about why counseling is needed. The dietitian has access to your medical record to provide individualized care. Dietitians are trained to review lab values, medications and procedures to provide care specific to the needs of their clients.
