Breastfeeding Support
Boston Medical Center is a WHO/UNICEF designated Baby-Friendly hosptial. BMC provides families with prenatal breastfeeding information, breastfeeding classes, lactation consultants, breastfeeding rooms (for both parents and staff!), peer counseling support groups and a telephone support line (617) 414- MILK. Parents and their families may choose to attend a class prenatally, during their stay at BMC, or at any time after leaving the hospital. Breastfeeding classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 11:00 am/Tuesday along with infant massage at 10:30 am. All classes are held in the Birth Place (3 West, Menino Pavillion).

Infant Massage
The power of touch is healing! Infant massage also promotes bonding between babies and their new families. Our Infant Massage Program provides new families with an opportunity to learn infant massage during their stay. Classes are held Tuesdays at 10:30am in the Birth Place ( 3West, Menino Pavillion). Parents and their families may choose to attend a class during their stay at BMC and may also return at any time for an additional session. Families are also given information on similar programs in their communities.

Parenting Resource
Before going home, each family is given an exciting book about newborn and child care called Growing Up Healthy (in English or Spanish). Parents are encouraged to bring this book to all of their pediatric visits and to use it to record their infant's growth and special achievements.

Mental Health and Recovery from Addiction
BMC offers support for families struggling with depression, addiction and other problems related to substance abuse. Our team of professionals includes counselors and specialists who can listen to families' problems and help families access and receive the care that best fits their needs. Our specialists will help mothers join programs which are designed for mothers with infants and children.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
A specialized team of professionals in our Level III, 15-bed NICU care for infants who require close observation and additional therapy. They provide families with medical and emotional support.

Painfree Newborn Care
