Our Mission
The Prenatal Course is an introductory course to birthing,
parenting, and reproductive health offered to teens and their partners
by the Teen and Tot Program at Boston Medical Center.
The course is completely designed with you in mind! This ten week
course covers most of the topics that you, as teenagers, need to
know to best be able to care for yourself and your new baby. These
topics include prenatal care, nutrition, breastfeeding, family planning,
newborn care basics, early child development, socio-economic issues
and education.

Prenatal Courses: When,
Where, What to Bring
Prenatal
course are offered through the Adolescent Clinic at Boston Medical
Center. A typical class size is limited to 10-12 people (partners
included!) to create a space for safe sharing of ideas and experiences.
When:
The class meets every week for 10 weeks on Friday afternoons from
3:30 pm to 5:30 PM.
Where:
The prenatal classes are held in the conference rooms across from
the cafeteria on the mezzanine level of Boston Medical Center.
What to bring:
You, your partner, and your motivation to learn what it takes to
prepare for the birth of your baby. All materials for the class
are provided--including refreshments!

Prenatal Course Instructors
Adrienne Stephens-Nunley and Robin Milton are the health educators and primary prenatal course instructors for the Teen and Tot program at Boston Medical Center.
The instructors are staff members at Boston Medical center
and include social workers, health educators, pediatricians, and
nurses.

Prenatal Course: Incentive
Program for Participants
The purpose of the incentive program is to encourage new teen
parents to take an active interest in the planning for the birth
of their child by attending the prenatal class offered by the Teen
and Tots program at Boston Medical Center.
Funded by the March of Dimes, this program is designed to increase
participation in the prenatal classes by offering gift certificates
to area stores. Expecting and new moms can use these gift certifcates
to purchase needed items for their new baby.
How do I get to participate?
Easy. Attend the classes and pay attention. Take the quizzes offered
at the end of each class, and if you score well, you win a gift
certificate to an area store such as KMart. With these gift certificates,
you can purchase extra things you or your baby night need in the
future.

It's easy! You can enroll in the Prenatal Course by one of three
ways:
- Ask your pediatrician to sign you up the during one of your
prenatal visits.
