The mission of the Division of General Pediatrics
at Boston University School of Medicine/ Boston Medical Center is
to improve child health through excellence and leadership in clinical
and health services research, pediatric health care, advocacy and
education. The Division focuses on children living in the urban
environment. All members of the Division provide patient care (between
2 and 5 sessions per week plus yearly attending responsibilities),
although research and teaching are the central foci of the
Division.
Faculty
have focused on either clinical and health services research or
public policy research. Educational responsibilities include the
medical student program at BUSM, faculty development in the pedagogy
of teaching and the methodology of research, and resident education
in primary care, health policy, epidemiology, biostatistics and
primary care.
General extramural support in the Division is from
training grants (HRSA: primary care, faculty development, and national
research service awards) and private foundations (both career awards
and research grants). Limited support is available from the National
Institutes of Health.
