March 2008 - Julie Mottl-Santiago, Director of the Birth Sister Program, announces that the Birth Sister breastfeeding peer counselor program is up and running. The peers offer culturally-competent counseling to mothers who need extra social support to breastfeed successfully via individual consultations, group information sessions, and home visits after discharge. Birth Sister breastfeeding peers include Luz Lopez, Daisy Boada and Guadalupe Lopez.

August 2007 - The U.S. Government (CDC) releases national breastfeeding rates for babies born in 2004. Boston Medical Center's breastfeeding rate of 88% exceeded the national initiation rate of 73.8% and met the Healthy People 2010 goal of 75%.
May 2007 - Boston Medical Center is awarded recertification of Baby-Friendly status by Baby-Friendly USA.
